Biographie:
Salvatore Sciarrino wurde 1947 in Palermo geboren. Er begann zunächst zu malen. Mit zwölf Jahren erhielt er bei Antonio Titone Kompositionsunterricht, außerdem Anregungen durch Turi Belfiore und Franco Evangelisti. 1966–69 studierte er Musikgeschichte an der Universität von Palermo, dann übersiedelte er nach Rom, wo er bei Franco Evangelisti an der Accademia di S. Cecilia einen Kurs für elektronische Musik besuchte. 1974–77 lehrte Sciarrino am Mailänder Konservatorium, 1977–80 war er künstlerischer Leiter des Teatro Comunale in Bologna, seit 1978 lehrt er auch an den Konservatorien von Perugia und Florenz. Sciarrino, der in Città di Castello auf Sizilien lebt, erhielt zahlreiche Preise, u. a. Premio Luigi Dallapiccola, Premio Gaspar Cassadò, Premio Abbaiati, Premio Italia Radiotre und Premio SIAE.
