Biographie:
Stefan Asbury, ein Stipendiat der Oxford University und des Royal College of Music, studierte Dirigieren bei Oliver Knussen; 1990 folgten weitere Studien in den USA, u. a. im Tanglewood Music Center. Er wurde Vizedirektor des Oxford Contemporary Music Festival und dirigierte zahlreiche Uraufführungen sowie Studio- und Konzertaufnahmen mit dem Ensemble Intercontemporain und dem BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Er war Associate Director für Neue Musik in Tanglewood; 2001 wurde er Chefdirigent des Ensembles ›Bit 20‹ in Oslo. Stefan Asbury arbeitet mit zahlreichen Ensembles und Orchestern: DSO Berlin, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien, Opéra de Lyon, Netherlands Dance Theatre, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Avanti!, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln. 2004 wurde er mit dem BMW Musiktheaterpreis ausgezeichnet (für die Premiere von Rob Zuidams Oper Freeze). Seine Produktion Les espaces acoustiques erhielt den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
