Petra Hoffmann erhielt ihre Gesangsausbildung bei Elsa Cavelti. In Gastverträgen wurde sie an die Opernhäuser in Brüssel, Madrid, Lissabon, Stuttgart und Venedig verpflichtet. Als gesuchte Interpretin zeitgenössischer Werke ist sie regelmäßig bei internationalen Festivals zu Gast. Ihre rege Konzerttätigkeit führte zur Zusammenarbeit mit Maurizio Pollini, Claudio Abbado, Michael Gielen, Ingo Metzmacher und Sylvain Cambreling. Zahlreiche CD- und Rundfunkproduktionen dokumentieren ihr breitgefächertes Repertoire.
