Biographie:
MISATO MOCHIZUKI, geboren 1969 in Tokio, zählt zu den Komponisten, die gleichermaßen in Europa und in Japan aktiv wirken. Nach dem Kompositionsdiplom an der Nationalen Universität der Schönen Künste und der Musik in Tokio erhielt sie 1995 den Ersten Preis für Komposition am Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris und nahm dort anschließend an einem Seminar im IRCAM (1996/97) teil.
In einer ganz eigenen Verbindung zwischen abendländischer Tradition und asiatischem Atem, entwickelt die Schreibweise von Misato Mochizuki zauberhafte Rhythmen und ungewöhnliche Klänge von großer formaler und stilistischer Freiheit. Ihr Werkkatalog (erschienen bei Breitkopf & Härtel) umfasst heute ca. 40 Werke, darunter 15 symphonische Kompositionen und 12 Stücke für Ensemble. Ihre Werke, die bei internationalen Festivals (u. a. Salzburger Festspiele, Biennale di Venezia, La Folle Journée in Tokio) gespielt wurden, erhielten zahlreiche Auszeichnungen wie 2002 den Publikumspreis des Festivals Ars Musica in Brüssel für Chimera, 2003 den Japanischen Staatspreis für die größte künstlerische Begabung, 2005 den Otaka-Preis für Cloud nine als beste symphonische Uraufführung in Japan und für L’Heure bleue sowohl 2008 den Großen Preis der Tribune internationale des compositeurs als auch 2010 den Heidelberger Künstlerinnenpreis. Zu ihren herausragendsten Produktionen gehören das Orchester-Portraitkonzert in der Suntory Hall in Tokio (2007), das Ciné-concert im Louvre mit der Musik zum Stummfilm Le Fil blanc de la cascade von Kenji Mizoguchi (2007) und das Portraitkonzert beim Festival d’Automne in Paris (2010).
2011–2013 war Misato Mochizuki Composer-in-Residence beim Festival international de musique de Besançon. Seit 2007 unterrichtet sie Kunsttheorie an der Meiji-Gakuin-Universität in Tokio. Zu Kompositionskursen wurde sie nach Darmstadt, nach Royaumont sowie nach Takefu und an das Konservatorium Amsterdam eingeladen. In ihren Aktivitäten reflektiert sie kontinuierlich die Rolle des Komponisten in der heutigen Gesellschaft. Darüber hinaus schreibt Misato Mochizuki in einer eigenen Rubrik alle drei Monate über Musik und Kultur für die renommierte Yomiuri Shimbun, die meistgelesene Tageszeitung in Japan.
