Biographie:
Das Orchester Jakobsplatz München wurde 2005 unter der Federführung von Daniel Grossmann, dem heutigen künstlerischen Leiter, gemeinsam mit jungen Mitgliedern der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde München und Oberbayern gegründet, angeregt durch den Bau des Jüdischen Zentrums Jakobsplatz. Das Orchester, bestehend aus jüdischen und nichtjüdischen professionellen Musikern, will mit der universellen Sprache der Musik den Dialog fördern und zu einer Kultur des Zusammenlebens beitragen.
Im Orchester Jakobsplatz München spielen Musiker aus 23 Ländern. Programmatisch setzt das Ensemble seinen Focus auf selten gespielte Werke jüdischer Komponisten, kombiniert mit Musik des 20./21. Jahrhunderts. Außerdem vergibt das Orchester Kompositionsaufträge mit jüdischem Bezug. Seit 2007 ist das Orchester Jakobsplatz München regelmäßig im Hubert-Burda-Saal der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde München mit einem Konzertzyklus zu erleben.
Darüber hinaus hat das Orchester in verschiedenen Koproduktionen mit dem Bayerischen Staatsschauspiel mitgewirkt; in Kooperation mit der Bayerischen Staatsoper entstand die szenische Aufführung der Kammeroper Der Kaiser von Atlantis oder Die Todverweigerung von Viktor Ullmann. Ein Höhepunkt in der noch jungen Geschichte des Orchesters war das Benefizkonzert mit Anne-Sophie Mutter, das weit über München hinaus Beachtung fand. Mit der Eröffnung des 9. Jüdischen Sommerfestivals 2006 in Budapest erweiterte das Orchester seinen Wirkungskreis mit großem Erfolg über die nationalen Grenzen hinaus. Das Orchester Jakobsplatz München hat bereits mit renommierten Solisten zusammengearbeitet, u. a. Anne-Sophie Mutter, Ann-Katrin Naidu, Kevin Conners und Tanja Becker-Bender.
